September 2016: Why Bring Your Kids to Sunday School?

img_20160828_133002-001Welcome to a new school year! We in the Children’s Ministry have been hard at work preparing our weekly programs and the fun family events that you have come to expect from San Pedro Kids. God is going to do so many great things at our church this year!

In Colossians 1:9, Paul the apostle tells the Christians he has come to love, “I have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” I love this prayer. I think Paul’s love for the Colossians is evident – and his mission for them is clear: He knows that their love for God cannot grow unless their knowledge of Him grows, too. “It is a simple, yet profound reality: The more we know Him (not just know about Him), the more we will love Him.” Pastor and author Bill Hybels said that.

I believe this is true for our kids, too. We want them to love God with their whole hearts. But we must also nurture them to grow in their understanding and knowledge of who God is and why He matters to them. As parents, we foster this spiritual growth at home, and supplement it with the opportunities for Christian education provided by our church. Every week at San Pedro, our children have this opportunity in the form of Sunday School. We pray you will make a way for your children to take part.
