HIDE AND SEEK
by Dave Reiss
Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me! (Psalm 119: 18-19)
Close your eyes. Count to twenty. Open your eyes. Shout, “Ready or not, here I come.” Look around. Search for others in hidden locations. Some are hidden in obvious places; others take more time and skill. There is fun in both the hiding and the seeking, in finding and being found.
God loves to play Hide and Seek. He hides throughout our lives, longing for us to discover him in new ways. Here is an quote from a book that changes my life, Dangerous Wonder.
The nature of God is playful, that is why He hides. God is not only present when we can see Him, He is present when we can’t, and joy comes from recognizing God in places we never thought He would be, God hides in difficulty, He hinds in suffering, He hides in poverty, He hides in failure, and He hides in the stories of our lives. Whatever our circumstance, whatever the status of our lives, God is present – invisible, hiding waiting for us to discover Him, waiting for us to learn from Him in the shadows as well as this light.

Open God’s word, it is filled with instruction. Not rules to keep you bogged down in life, but beautiful commands, designed so that you can have a life filled with purpose and passion. Jesus declared to his disciples, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10, NLT).
Open your eyes. Look for where God is hiding. Seek him with your whole heart. Find what you are really looking for… and a whole lot more.
